Seat Alhambra Key Problems
Seat's jumbo family MPV is one of the best in its class when it comes to retaining resale value. And with a new generation model now available it's even better.
There are a number of reasons why your key fob might not function properly, including a dead battery or water damage, receiver module issues or signal interference. This article will walk you through the steps needed to get it back to working.
Water Damage
If your key fob for the seat alhambra survives an wash cycle or a dip in the ocean or a pool then it's equipped with a waterproof chip. However, don't do it often, as prolonged exposure to water increases chances of the key fob becoming damaged. If seat exeo key programming ceases to working after exposure to clean tap water or rain, then just remove the battery, wipe the electronic component with a paper towel and allow it to dry completely before putting it back into. If the key fob has been exposed to salty or soapy water, it is recommended that you clean the chip with isopropyl or an electronic cleaner.
Faulty Receiver Module
If you have tried an entirely new battery for your button and the key fob still cannot be locked or unlocked, it's likely that the receiver module has discovered a problem. It's a simple and inexpensive fix. You can remove the battery with 12 volts for a couple of minutes (first take off the negative cable, then press the horn a few times) in order to drain any remaining electricity. After that, you can reconnect it in reverse. Positive first and then negative.
ESP Warning Light - If the ESP symbol flashes, this is normal. It means that you are driving over terrain with poor traction. This could be due to gravel, snow or surface water. If the ESP light is constantly on, it means that there is a flaw in the system. This can be identified with a iCarsoft i908 seat OBD code reader kit. It will provide a detailed fault description.
Dead Coin Battery
A dead coin battery is among the most common reasons for the keys for the seat to stop working. The key fob has a small button cell battery that keeps it running. Replace it with a brand new battery that has the exact voltage, size and specification as the original. If you're replacing the battery, ensure that you remove all metal clips from the back of the key fob and make sure that the contact points are free of corrosion.
If the key fob was exposed to water (such as rain or soapy tap water), it is recommended that you remove and clean the chip using an electronic cleaner or isopropylethanol prior to installing a new battery. The chip is sensitive to moisture and may be permanently damaged. If the key fob still not working after replacing the battery, it could be necessary to replace the entire key fob.
Faulty Receiver Module
If your key fob stopped functioning after replacing the battery, but it did not function, or stopped working in a sudden manner the receiver module could have developed a problem. The receiver module is responsible to receive the radio frequency signals sent by your remote key fob and transform them into electrical commands which are then processed by other modules in the car.
If the receiver module is defective it will not be able to accept any commands from your remote key fob. In this situation you will require a dealer to reprogram your key fob as well as install the new receiver.
The key fob is sealed with rubber to keep water from entering the electronic chip. If you submerge the key fob in soapy or salty water, it could cause damage to the chip. You can try cleaning the chip by rub it with isopropyl alcohol or electronic cleaner, but if your key fob still doesn't work after doing this, then you'll need to purchase a replacement.

If the keys have been connected, but the receiver module is faulty, you can try to restart all the electronics in the board by disconnecting the 12-volt battery for a couple of minutes. Then, reconnect the battery in reverse order (negative cable first and then positive). This will reset the on-board electronic circuit and restore their functionality.
Faulty electronic chip
The key fob is fitted with a chip that transmits the signal from the key to the receiver module each time the key is used. If the signal received does not coincide with the one stored by the car the immobilizer is able to shut off the engine and prevent the vehicle from beginning. If the key fob does not work and you are unable to reprogram it, this could be due to an issue with the microchip.
The chip in the key fob isn't permanent to the device, and might need to be replaced in order to get it working again. This can be done by removing the key fob from its case, and using a needle or pin to connect with each metal retaining clip. You will require replacement if they are damaged or corrosion-prone. Make sure that the replacement batteries are of the same voltage, size, and specification as the original.
The Seat Alhambra is an attractive and well-designed model but, as with any car it may encounter problems with specific components or equipment. A few owners have reported issues with the auto climate control system. It can fail and cause problems, and then get stuck in a particular setting. The infotainment systems can also malfunction and freeze the screens.
